Stephen A. Skiver, MD, JD
The founder of the firm and Managing Partner, Stephen A. Skiver,
M.D., J.D. began his professional life engaged in the practice of
Internal and Critical Care medicine for nearly 16 years.
He returned to law school in 1985 while still practicing
medicine, securing his Jurist Doctorate in 1988 and subsequently
became licensed to practice law in Ohio and Michigan.
Since that time he has
been involved in a wide variety of legal areas.
Obviously, due to his medical background, his practice has
included actively and aggressively defending hospitals, clinics and
hundreds of healthcare providers.
Over his career he has defended nearly one thousand medical
malpractice actions. He has
eighteen years of litigation experience in both state and federal
courts and has tried cases ranging in severity from simple to
devastating, including defending brain damaged baby cases,
cardiovascular, orthopedic, neurosurgical and death cases to name
but a few. He has brought his medical experience to other areas of
practice including personal injury, general litigation and trucking
& transportation defense.
His medical background is an asset to analyzing and understanding
the injuries at issue in a matter, including the severity and
prognosis of any claimed trauma.
Dr. Skiver has tried
cases throughout Ohio, Michigan, and West Virginia. Rated an AV
lawyer with Martindale-Hubbell and named to Who’s Who in American
Law, he has been invited to speak at legal and medical seminars
throughout the country on a variety of legal topics, and has taught
law to medical students and physicians in training. Dr. Skiver
applies his unique combination of training and experience to each
and every case that is presented to the law firm as he brings the
fields of medicine and law together.
